does a partial stop the pain?

I am in a lot of pain, bone on bone arthritis in knee . have now been refered to a pain clinic which I am hoping will help, if it doesn't then all I have left is wait until they will do a partial knee replacement.
I have a good range of movement in my knee despite pain (as I am hypermobile this is no surprise) but it hurts a lot, and swells up dramatically and goes really hot when do anything remotly involving moving. o and when it swells the patella subluxated which hurts like hell,
my question is a partial or indeed total knee replacement stop the pain and swelling? I am 44 and have already had 3 surgeries on my knee and I want to know if I should push for a replacement if the pain clinic can't calm things down or if a replacement is unlikely to stop it hurting. I have good movement in joint but can't take this pain,

Hi, I am 46, hypermobile and after 4 knee surgeries have just had a partial knee replacement 7 weeks ago, the arthritis bone on bone pain has gone. I tried pain killers and a knee brace first. After putting it off for as long as I could it got to the point where I could no longer work. Good luck!

Hello Morg,
I have posted my story today (and earlier as well). I've had 3 meniscectomies on the medial side , but I am not bone on bone and this not make me a good candidate for pkr. Did you have MAKOplasty done ? Great news that your pain is gone! How is your mobility? Does the knee feel stable ? I am also curious how quickly you can get back to sports and in what capacity.
Thank you,
Bardlas.

Hi bardlas, I didn't have makoplasty. Even though I am just seven weeks post op and have another 5 weeks to go before I'm back at work my mobility is fantastic compared to before and my knee now stable. Surgeons with bad knees go and see my surgeon so I'm very lucky. Sports wise high impact is a no goer. My surgeon suggested a hto but though I would have better results with a pkr, but with a hto you can go back to sports. I just wanted to work, look after my kids and walk my dog 😊

Morg did you get a HTO or a PKR please? If PKR was it a patellofemoral type? I had HTOonce settled it was great but once I had plates removed the knee started hurting again. Worth bearing in mind if thats what you had!
