Hi Folk's dose anyone know who the best Surgeon in the UK is to get patellofemoral Part knee Replacement done? I know the Bath/Avon Knee clinics had a big part in the development of this type of knee surgery, was wondering if they are still the best or is there anywhere else where they are performed regularly?

As you have a good relationship with Mr Skinner, I'd ask him for his recommendation if he isn't able to do it

I think someone on another thread of yours said they'd had one done by Mr Chissell

I'd also enquire of the Oxford group as they specialise in unilateral replacements (possibly including PF)

Hiya Vickster I m very sorry for slow reply did not realise you had replied. I m waiting to see Mr Skinner as we speak but dont know if he will do it or not he was off work for a bit and has just came back not sure if hes operating ATM.

The reason I ask about this is when I watch op Thers a few things they can get wrong so was hoping to get someone who dose this day in day out as there specialist thing. Theres a few different manufacturers of the patellofemoral PKR, but my neighbour had the oxford knee put in and they guy who did it cocked it up and had to get revised to full knee replacement, he then phoned the manufacturers and they told him to go see Mr Dodds who did more than anyone else and he did his other knee which is still working fine 15 years later.
At my age (40) and financial situation I can not afford a error like he had but its hard to fine out anyone who specialises in patellofemoral replacement. I will take your advice though and look into oxford but thought they were specialists in oxford knee not necessarily  avon type.. Will also look into Mr Chissell!!

Thanks Vikster went in pain these boards are one of the few thngs that give any hope or comfort!! Xx

To be honest, I think you might struggle to find someone who does lots of these, as not that many are done it appears. My surgeon purports to do them, but I don't know how many...while he does 250 replacements per year. He's a really nice guy too

There are guys in Bath who do them, e.g. http://www.circlehealth.co.uk/consultants/neil-

This chap gets quite a few mentions on here, in terms of kneecap stuff but dk on the PF replacement front

http://www.kneesurgeonbristol.co.uk/jonathan-eldridge.aspx

I'd speak to Mr Skinner. If you see him privately, you could try emailing his secretary and ask her to pass the message on? She was very helpful from what I can recall

This trust has a protocol for the Avon PF joint, perhaps do some research around their knee specialists

https://www.stockport.nhs.uk/documents/PIL/2347_TO06.pdf

And this surgeon does too, but private only I expect and would cost given he's at the Wellington

http://www.rahulpatel.net/knee-surgery/patello-femoral-replacement.html

Actually he does have an NHS practice in London.

Thanks Vikster  ;) :) ;D

What do you mean you dont trust your own surgeon to do them?

The Avon/Bath knee clinic is they place stryker developed the early patellofemoral knee replacements but there are a few companys about now who make them. just watching a video

https://www.arthrex.com/resources/presentation/AvIfH7tmKUeAvgFO1sQHOw/patellofemoral-arthroplasty-concomitant-procedures-have-you-addressed-all-of-the-issues

where the guy says he used to use the stryker but has done a few types and now dose the arthrex type.

I whole heartedly trust me skinner 100% infact I love he
im in a sportsman like manner, but he was not to well recently and is gently easing himself back into work. I feel bad going back to see him after all he has done for me if I m honest but I m going to get his opinion and make a decision from there.

You hav been very helpfull Vikster and will look into the leads you have given me apreciate this alot :) You have a far better understanding than I have which means you must of been through alot of suffering yourself which i sympathise with its not easy.

Heres my email  [email protected] add me on facebook or drop me a email, I think we could help each other out here.

Are you looking to get this surgery done yourself now??

Not at all, I trust him implicitly, however, he may not be the right surgeon for that surgery, but I would ask him for a r commendation.  I would certainly have him do a TKR. Unfortunately, or fortunately, he'll be long retired by the time I may need one :)

No more knee surgery for me, although I have upset my knee, physio thinks irritated meniscus, if it doesn't settle, I'll get an MRI and probably a hyaluronic acid injection just to settle everything down, probably due as it's nearly 3 years since the last.

I need to get my shoulder fully rehabbed too, priority #1 right now

I wouldn't feel bad about going back, it's not your or his fault your knee hasn't held up. Just bad luck unfortunately (I keep falling off bikes so I'm not sure I can say the same lol)

LOL I fall of motorbikes I feel your frustraition though.

I m going to ask Mr Skinner about the injections though I dont think they will help me as exposed bone is rubbing against eachother.

Mr Skinner always makes you feel wecome and is comforting to!

You know I was looking up the surgeons who do this surgery at bath Mr Eldridge who you sent me the link is one of them.

For me i m far from wealthy but would gladly pay Mr Skinner or any other right man good money if it works its worth it, but will see whar Mr Skinner says first of all.

I have been recomended surgeons before and after meeting them would not trust them with acupuncture, one even walked out of surgeory mid op (hard to believe I know) and was later suspended. I m sure the majority are good but have herd a few horror tories over the years......
