Knee Effusion after OATS
«

I'm at 24 year old male and had left knee OATS procedure I'm the beginning of July. Off of major pain meds since 4 days post op. However, on my lateral side, which is the donor side, I have a lump that is squishy and icing and motrin doesn't touch the swelling. I am still non weight bearing until the end of august and was wondering if this was still just post op swelling or I developed a knee effusion. Also before surgery I had a stem cell injection about 3 months prior to the OATS. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Laxer,
I'm a 28 year old male, who had oats 3 years ago. I'm doing pretty well. Here are some pics before during and 2 years after. Do you have any mri pics and I'll have a look?

Sounds totally normal to me! But...I'm also one of the world's greatest knee swellers. I'm guessing this wasn't your first surgery? In which case...do you have any OA or synovitis going on as well?
I'd say with the OATs..from my experience, and talking with others who've gone through it...is that you can expect your knee to get "angry" every time you introduce something new again. It's a long slow roller coaster ride...but should be well worth it!
Let me know if you have any other questions
I went through it last year along with a meniscus transplant.
