Open Patella Fracture
« on: July 26, 2016, 10:14:42 AM »
This is my first post, I have been reading this very informative forum for the last 3 weeks, I'm very thankful I found this forum, helped me a lot to understand my situation and what is waiting for me.

I had a motorcycle accident June 28th 2016, suffered from open patella fracture on my right knee and fracture on my right hand.

I knew a very good Orthopedics surgeon I have been to his clinic before, therefore I have been taken to his clinic, from the tomography results my doctor told me I do not need surgery for the knee but I need surgery for the hand... I got couple screws and plates in my right hand.

My surgeon told me there micro fracture piece outside of the patella joint, he told me even with a surgery there is literally no way to piece them together, except those my patella fracture looks good compared to what he experienced before.

I have been told my patella fracture is multiple fracture but pieces are not far away from each other, still together, therefore no need for surgery. My surgeon put me in a full leg cast for 27-28 days, and he took it off yesterday (25th of July).

Today is my first PT doctor appointment, they will examine my knee also and from there I think I will start exercises. I can not put much weight as of now, it is very stiff, I know this is what happens when your leg stays in full leg cast for a month but it worries me how this will work out.

I am planning to buy TENs/EMS device just to use it as a supplementary aid. I know these devices alone can not make miracles. I would like to know if anyone ever bought his/her own TENs/EMS device here ?

I bought one and still use it on both legs.

Some info here:

(search in page for TENS, but in fact you need EMS rather than TENS)

p.s. It is not like they show in the infomercials (attractive models getting great abs while smiling and relaxing). it is hard work, you need to push the intensity and work hard (but take it easy in the beginning).

Pay attention to nutrition as well:

good luck with you recovery
