I don't think either has much data, certainly not prolo. PRP good for inflammation. Starting to be some data for stem cells. How severe is the cartilage damage? What's caused it?
What does your specialist suggest?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

What symptoms do you have? how big is the defect/affected area? How is the subchondral bone?  Grade 2 chondromalacia isn't generally symptomatic unless the underlying bone or surrounding tissue is damaged, no nerves in the articular cartilage

Prolo seems utterly hokum to me, certainly wouldn't spend any money on it.  My surgeon doesn't rate PRP for articular cartilage/arthritis either (he is pretty conservative)

I'd be trying a hyaluronic acid shot whcih is indicated for mild-moderate arthritis.  Definitely works for me in terms of pain reduction in my tatty left knee (1.5cm2 WB defect filled with gently disintegrating fibro, kissing softened cartilage on tibia, couple of degenerate meniscus tears)

Wouldn't BMAC still be beneficial even though it was caused by trauma?

@M I did another check and your right! Though some  people in this thread are saying HGH has regrown their damaged cartilage http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEtalk/index.php?topic=46074.0 I wonder how the two compare to each other in effectiveness
