second opinion?
« on: February 23, 2004, 01:04:45 AM »
Had partial menisectomy 8 mos ago in right due to degenerative tear - and had/have arthritis in both. Now 8 mos after surgery, I went back to see him because of pain that never really went all the way away and now my left knee hurts worse than before. My os seemed somewhat indifferent, did not mention taking any new  pictures to see if anything new was going on, just kept looking at old pics from 8 months ago and offered a series of injections (cynvist) IF i wanted them. I got the feeling he did not want to hear of anhything wrong since he was the os and I felt he was in a hurry or something.
Should I get another opinion? .

It's simple....if you are having problems and don't feel your OS is taking them seriously, definitely get another opinion. I think sometimes an OS who has seen you for a long time gets stuck in what they "know" about you, and don't look further. This has happned to me twice, and I had another doctor in between who said there wasn't really anything wrong with my knee. But I now have an OS who listens to me and I feel confident that he is taking me seriously. By the way, if you're going to get another opinion, try to find a knee specialist who is an expert in your problem. Might as well go righ to the top! Good luck.

I am also considering a second opinion, while I'm not unhappy with my OS, I just want to make sure that there are not any other options available to me.  I'm writing to let you know I had the synvisc injections & they were helpful, although temporary, I have opted to skip out on them right now because of cost.  Those injections are terribly expensive! Good luck to you & I don't blame you for getting a second opinion - better to be safe than sorry!
