Frustrated With Clear Test Results!!
« on: November 11, 2003, 09:56:34 PM »
I had several tests run back in May to find out why I've had pain in both knees for nearly 2 years.  The Dr. ordered XRays, Ultrasound, MRI, etc.  She also wants me to see a surgeon to get his opinion.

The last test was run end of August, and the Dr. advised she won't see me again until I see the surgeon.  I'm still waiting to get an APPOINTMENT to see him, let alone actually SEEING him!!

Yesterday I saw my family Dr. to discuss some neurological problems I've been having (hair loss, numbness in hands and face, extreme fatigue, headaches) and she pulled out this HUGE report from the specialist that showed all the tests came back clear!!!!  I couldn't believe it!

I'm not sure why they want me to still see a surgeon if they can't see anything wrong.

I'm so depressed today - I've been waiting so long hoping they can figure out what's going on with my knees.  Physio made them worse, orthotics didn't make a difference, and 2 knee braces hurt!

My family Dr. thinks my neuro things could be just due to stress.  If so, I'm going to have to quit my job and take some time to figure out what the heck is wrong with me!!

The specialist at one time suspected Lupus but ruled it out in May because I didn't have any neuro problems at that time.  Now is a different story, but I can't see her until I see the surgeon which will be who knows when!!

Yesterday I had a chest XRay done and a bunch of blood taken so now I'm waiting for test results AGAIN!!!

Thanks for letting me vent.  I don't know how I'm going to get through this otherwise!!

Amy,

I know you posted this a while ago, but I was wondering if the blood tests you had revealed anything? Hope you are well.

Hi there,

I'm glad I saw your response!  I'm back to freshen up a little on what I posted since I'm FINALLY seeing the surgeon on Monday.

I have no idea what he will say.  I have quit my job this week because I'm too sick to work.  I've been to the neuro and he has ordered an MRI to rule out Multiple Sclerosis.  Pretty scary stuff, but at this point I just want to know what's wrong.

At first everyone was saying thyroid, but those tests came back clear.  The neurologist ordered the Lupus blood test along with a bunch of other antiocardiolipin, etc. tests.  I'll get those results when I see him again in April.

I have no idea if my knee issues are related to this new stuff, but I'm hoping to get some answers Monday.  It would be so great to get at least ONE of these problems sorted out!

Thanks for being interested!   :)

Dear Amy:

Saw your posting and could only think how hard it must be to feel so bad and to not know what's wrong!  Sometimes you just wish they could put a name on it, even if it's a scary name like lupus, so you'd know you're not crazy.  All I can tell you is that you need to stick with it, pursue the doctors, until someone tells you why you're hurting...you know it hurts and it's not all in your head.
Hang in there, and let us know how things are going.

hi amy, im sorry your going through allthis but i thought id give you soemthing to think about while your waiting.  - - Do you have any extra cartilage in either of your knees? Maybe you have a malignant tumor in one of them or both? That could be causing your hair loss and such,  and I dont know what tests you had but maybe they didnt work as well?  Im sorry, god why do doctors get paid so much to ignore the patients that need them the most...I had the same problem getting an appointment with my OS and I ended up finding out that if I had seen him earlier things could have been different for my knee.  Good luck,

Hi everyone,

I saw the surgeon on Monday and he said there's nothing he can fix surgically.  The MRI shows NOTHING wrong with any tendons, ligaments, bones, etc.  Amazing to us, since I have hardly been able to walk for over 2 years now.  He watched me walk and said "that is NOT normal" and said there was something else going on.  I told him about my neurological problems and he thinks it's related to my knee pain.

It seems like such a waste to have been waiting since May to see this guy and he can't do a thing for me anyway!!!!   >:(

I have my brain MRI in March, so that's not too long of a wait considering how long I've waited for everything else.

Thanks for being interested in my never-ending saga!

Hang in there Amy, I understand how frustrating that would be...have you had Xrays done of the knees? My MRI's 4 of them showed absolutely nothing...xrays tell a completely diffferent story.  :-/ Hopefully after the MRI on your head you will be able to get some of these things sorted out.
Hang in there
