Bicompartimental knee replacement & skiing?
« on: October 27, 2015, 02:15:22 PM »
I'm wondering if & when I'll be back skiing after bicompatimental prosthetic surgery. I'd like to hear about your experience & recommendations (brace or no brace), off-piste vs on piste etc... I'm a pretty good skier, rarely fall, always wear a knee brace. I've accepted that les bosses/bumps/moguls are finished for me and that's ok... :(

PKR 04.2015
Cortisone & hyaluronique acid injections 01-02.2015

which compartments, I thought most people don't do bi compartmental and just opt for total knee, are they preserving your ligaments?

I've recently read some comments by Jonathan Bell, a prominent knee specialist in the UK and keen skier, on this. He says it is fine, even with a new knee, as long as you have rehab properly and have built up the muscles again so that the knee is fit. He knows several professional skiers with either partial or complete knee replacements who still ski to high levels. I believe he also has had a PKR and is still a keen off-piste (back country) skier and also does ski touring.
