Loose graft or just worried?
« on: September 27, 2015, 03:00:25 AM »
Hi everyone,

I busted my knee at football. A late tackle that hit my tibia laterally while my leg was extended. Result, partial ACL tear and luckily no meniscus damage. Once the swelling was gone, I could walk normally and had normal hyperextension (-5 same as good leg). Though once in a while, my knee would give way on rotation. I wanted to be able to continue sports so I decided to get it fixed.

I got my ACL reconstruction done 9 weeks ago now (Semi T + middle part of gracilis = 9.5mm graft).
I am doing pretty well with my rehab. I reached terminal extension/hyperextension, I've been walking without any limp since week 3/4, I can squat on one leg from about 90 degrees flexion. My PT is now focusing on strengthening my hamstrings.

The only problem I have is that I can feel a little anterior play in my reconstructed knee when sitting at 20 degree flexion and pulling my tibia forward (sort of self administered lachman test).
My OS keeps telling me that my knee feels rock solid even though I can clearly see that there is some laxity. (I am talking about a couple of millimeters). When I try on my other knee, it doesnt move at all. My PT said it's muscle guarding that is lacking on my reconstructed knee but i am not convinced.

I reached a point where I now want to get my knee assessed by an arthrometer to get a definite, objective answer. Though I'll have to wait 3 more weeks as it seems this test can't be done before 3 months post op.

Hope to hear your thoughts on this...

- Walter.

Hi Walter

How is it going now after few months please?

I have same laxity in my knee after acl revision.
It feels like acl is little bit longer that is why there is laxity.

My PT says that muscles are weak and it will get tighter.
How many months of rehab is required to get the knee that will feel strong without laxity?

Any advice
