LCL injury..help pls
« on: August 28, 2015, 07:20:07 AM »
Hi

My MRI report said

Grade 2 sprain involving femoral attachment of Lateral collateral ligament. Does it mean my ligament is partially torn or some attachment to it is torn?

Replies appreciated

A grade 2 sprain means you have over stretched it and may have a partial tear to the tissue where the ligament attaches to the thigh bone. Grade 3 is a full tear.

I'm not a doctor but did have a full tear missed by my surgeon which resulted in me having further surgery and the instability caused meniscal tears which were trimmed surgically.

Physio with a therapist experienced in handling LCL injuries is your best option.

Thanks for the reply. So you mean the tissue is torn not the ligament as such? I am visiting a doctor but he doesnt tell me properly.

If you can't find a doctor able to explain, make a list of very specific questions and request answers, rather than just letting the doctor tell you. Take someone else with you to appointments who also has the list in case you forget something
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation

Ask your doctor for the exact information. Most doctors (orthopods) have models where they can show you what they mean. If you don't ask they won't explain. :-)
