MCL Injury - Do I have to get an MRI?
« on: July 16, 2015, 06:18:16 PM »
A week ago today I fell down the stairs twisting my knee behind me.  The ER doc gave me a knee immobilizer and told me to see how it feels in a week.  I can bear weight but it is stiff when I attempt to bend it.  Not much pain unless I accidently twist it.  I have a hinged brace arriving from Amazon today so I hope to become more mobile.  Do need an MRI?  Everything I read says these injuries almost always heal on their own.

MCL injuries generally do heal without surgery.  I had a grade 3 that took forever to feel better, but it did heal without surgery.

Hey K9Sports, good to read that it eventually healed. Can you give me a rough estimate about the time frame? Is it one year or two years?? And do you know for sure that the MCL healed or can it also be the strengthened muscles? My MCL has been fiber taped, however; the POL and medial capsule are stil very lax. Thx!
