Swelling significant two weeks post operation
« on: March 31, 2015, 01:14:23 PM »
Two weeks ago I had acl reconstruction using a hamstring graft and medial meniscus repair. I have been icing it elevating consistently. I took the pills that were prescribed and it's still so swollen I can't even make out my kneecap. What should I do?

Contact the doctor or physio if concerned.  Are you elevating above your heart?  And not with pillows under the knee? Also, in terms of exercises are you doing lots of ankle pumps?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

Yes I'm doing quite a few ankle pumps are they good or bad for the swelling?

They should be good. Are you staying off it too? Using crutches etc

You posted yesterday that you had walked a kilometer to a friend's house.  You should contact your doctor and tell him that is what you did and ask if that could be what is causing your problem.  Might be you are doing too much too soon.

The swelling was there before I went for the walk and hasn't become more significant since so I'm not too worried about that being the problem. I am doing the exercises given to me quite a lot maybe that might be a factor?
