Patella fracture inferior pole
« on: March 27, 2015, 07:12:11 AM »
Hi, I slipped and fell on tiles and have fractured my patella. I am waiting to see the fracture clinic but am very anxious and worried I will need surgery. All my doctor has said is that the fractures are on the inferior pole and that there is some separation? Can anyone tell me what this means and if it is likely I will need surgery?? Very worried as I am very active and a stay at home mum to two toddlers  :'(

Yikes, sorry to hear about your fall. If it is a separated fracture then yes, very likely they will need to align and fix the two halves together in order for your knee to heal correctly (sorry, I know you don't want to hear that).

Thanks Sarahjaye. The doctor said they thought it would need surgery but I won't see the specialist until Wednesday. In the meantime I'm getting lots of rest from my busy 2 and 3 year olds. Thank goodness for family.  :)
