What could this knee pain be?
« on: March 12, 2015, 10:03:31 PM »
Iím wondering if there is a type of strain known to be often associated with hyperextension, which could cause pain in a sharp jab at the outer side of the front of the knee cap when the injury occurs?

Not sure where to start in this forum because I donít know what I have.  I straightened my leg very tightly (overextend?) and I immediately felt a sharp jab there.  For a while I couldnít straighten my knee or bend my knee real far, couldnít squat down, but could walk okay as long as I didnít put extra weight on my knee by carrying heavy items.  I stopped exercise 6 weeks, and it seemed to get better, but then as I returned to exercises, the same hurt started all over again.  I made a doctor appt but canít get in for four weeks, so not sure what to read about in the mean time.  I guess I'll give up exercise all together for a while; Iím icing every night and taking anti-inflammatories, but the darn thing just isnít clearing up.  Would like to read more on this, but I donít know what it could be.
Thanks for any direction

I've been reading, and I think I figured it out.  The only thing that seems to fit is lateral meniscus.  Seems I have a journey ahead of me.....

If it's causing issues and not improving, go see an orthopaedic knee specialist for an examination and an MRI. I assume that's who you are seeing in a few weeks and not a GP who would need yo refer you on. What country are you in?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

thank you... I'm in the USA, in Virginia.  I saw my GP first, and he put me on Mobic anti-inflammatory, but that was back in January.  The upcoming appointment I have is with orthopaedic doctor Kevin Bonner at the Jordan Young Institute in Virginia Beach.

Vickster I see now that you had lateral meniscus trim.  I read that a good number of these clear up on their own; but I have the knee popping symptom so that doesn't sound as promising.  Did your surgery go well?
