Medial Meniscus tear & MCL Sprain
« on: January 16, 2015, 01:41:30 PM »
4 weeks after an MRI revealed this injury I'm wondering if anyone would advise Cycling with this condition?

My NHS referral has been pushed back till mid Feb.. originally sustained this injury playing football in early Oct and attempted running 8 weeks later which prompted a visit to the GP. I'm a marathon runner and am absolutely desperate to get back exercising, any advice would be much appreciated.

Can you see a physiotherapist, probably better off a private sports physio, and get their advice.  Or ask the GP for advice?

I have meniscus tears and until recently have been able to cycle but it really does depend on what problem they are causing.  What symptoms do you have?  Normally cycling is low impact and knee friendly, but you might be advised to stick to the bike in the gym and certainly avoid hills

Go swimming maybe for exercise, even less impact on knees but choose your stroke carefully, crawl kick usually better than breast stroke kick
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up
