MCL - how long did it take yours to heal?
« on: January 15, 2015, 02:23:59 PM »
Getting frustrated.....  had a severe MCL strain back in November (actually it happened during my knee surgery to repair a ligament in the back of my knee), I was immobilized for 5 weeks (from the surgical repair of the other ligament) and then started PT.  I am now 9+ weeks into this and I still have significant pain over the MCL area, I can't turn my foot to even put my shoes and socks on without significant pain, I can't walk up and down stairs, or get out of the car, without significant medial joint line pain.  I am really getting frustrated here...  If you had a significant MCL injury how long did it take for you to be nearly normal?

Hi I had a comple tear or my MCL and partial tear of my ACL, I had an open repair on it, and was then in plaster for eight weeks, after the plaster came off my leg was still locked, I had quite a lot of physio, I was very frustrating and took a good while to get movement back in my knee (the locking was through scar tissue) I would say it took a good six months to get back to normal.  This was 16+ years ago though, it's a long frustrating and painful road, but you get there in the end!

I had a simple MCL sprain that took me a good 10 weeks to recover from. It was nasty! The plica involvement at the end probably didn't help things, but geez, that MCL did not heal quickly. My therapist was not surprised by this. He told me that bones take 6-8 weeks to heal, and ligaments take even longer, especially the MCL. He told me that the MCL is the slowest ligament to heal, in his opinion :)

Keep your chin up! It does go away.... Eventually :)

I had a partial MCL tear which the orthopedic surgeon told me would take 6 - 8 weeks to heal. And it did take all of that time.
April, 2005 - ACL rupture, medial meniscus tear within posterior horn to articular surface, abnormal signal within lateral meniscus, partial tear MCL, bone contusions tibia/fibula, Baker's cyst.
No repairs.

I tore mine last year, took about 3-4 months
Before it felt normal, I was wearing my brace
All the time till it healed,
I still get the odd bit of pain everynow and then
Where the tear was though   guess that's scarring
Hope all's well now

so...  just as an update...  I did go see Dr. LaPrade, and apparently it's not my MCL that's giving me trouble its the root ligament that was repaired back in November... apparently it has re-tore.  Scheduling surgery for Dr. LaPrade to do the revision repair. Hopefully this will get me back to normal soon!
