Knee Pain below patella
« on: December 04, 2014, 08:01:44 PM »
About 9 months ago, I came home from a basketball game with a buckling sensation in my lower right knee area. It slowly went away, but during my next basketball game, it came back. Ever since then, I've had pain right below my patella (no more buckling sensation though). It hurts most after I play basketball (especially when I jump, so I am cautious not to fully jump when playing otherwise I get severe pain), but not much when I do leg workouts (squats, deadlifts, etc.).

If I get down to my knees like I'm about to prostrate, on the way down (while the knee is flexing), I hear a lot of crackling sounds in my right knee. On the way up, the crackling is not as bad (still clearly hear it though).

I went to the orthopedic, got my MRI and met with him after. I couldn't really get much out of him, but he said if continues to hurt a lot, we can do an arthroscopy, but I do not want to go this route.

Any ideas as to what this could be and how I can do some physical therapy on my own to help heal it?

Thanks!

You would be much better off seeing a physio to get a tailored exercise programme, so you don't do the wrong thing and make it worse. What did the mri show? What does the specialist think? Although good, mri isn't infallible and tears in meniscus, ligament etc can be missed.

In the meantime you should modify activity until you have a diagnosis

Good luck :)
