Contusion Led to ITBS??
« on: December 07, 2014, 07:09:49 PM »
I have a hard one to figure out. I hit my knee on a weight rack at the gym about 8 months ago. The area swelled up with just a little pain. I was able to keep running though. After the swelling went down I had a hard palpable lump over my Gerdys tubercle. I went to the doc (about 3 months post trauma) and he thought it might be a ganglion. He tried to asperate it and didn't get any fluid, but it got infected. This led to an abscess and cellulitis. I went on antibiotics and it resolved, but the bump remained. I got an MRI and they diagnosed it as bursitis, enthesitis, and thickening of the it band. The doc said stretch and rest may resolve it, but this thing still just looks mean and is very protruding. He injected it with cortisone 4 weeks ago without much change. I may get a sonogram to confirm there is not some type of cyst the mri did not pick up. Has anyone seen anything like this before and can maybe provide some advice?
