Help! What is wrong with my knee? Do you have these symptoms?
« on: September 13, 2014, 10:20:06 PM »
First of all thanks for any input on this!

I had an ACL reconstruction surgery in my right knee back in 2010 due to an injury while playing volleyball. My recovery was great and I returned to play volleyball on the time my doctor told me I would be able to, I actually had more strength and was able to jump higher than before. But...

In 2013 I started feeling some pain on the right side of the same knee, this pain was worse when I try to bend my knee or squat. I went to my doctor and he told me to do some P.T. I did and it did not help, then my doctor gave me some corticosteroid injections and it did not help with the pain. Then I took some x-rays and two MRIs and all came normal, at this point I have visited three different doctors.  One day I felt this horrible pain like my bone was hitting the other bone, the pain got worse and I couldn't walk up/down the stairs and even sitting down was hurting. Then I visited a different doctor that decided to do an arthroscopy, during the procedure he found part of my cartilage was gone and I had meniscus tear, he then did a Microfracture and trimmed the meniscus.

This week will be 5 months after my knee surgery and I still have the same pain on the side of the knee and now I don't have any knee strength. I can't run and can't pivot. A month ago my doctor gave me a corticosteroid injections and it only helped for few days,  and now my doctor is going to give me a Hyaluronic injection. I just don't even know what the problem is and I feel I have done all I could to find out the root of the pain and solve it. I did P.T. and got some X-rays and some MRIs, I got some steroid injections and even went to an chiropractor that worked on my IT band and nothing has solved this problem.

I feel like I will never be able to play volleyball again and I will always have this pain. I'm wondering if any one have experience this type of pain on the right side of the right knee and if they got it solved. Thanks again for any help on this.

Firstly, sorry you have to endure what many others Are too. Especially if you love doing a sport and can't do it anymore.
I don't have the same problem, but I am a candidate for a TKR, I think they want to try everything else first, ESP as "I am too young". I too had a steroid injection earlier this month and it hasn't helped at all, I am still living with pain. I go for a second opinion tomorrow. My first specialist next wants to try PRP (platelet rich plasma).
I am trying whatever I can think of as well, orthotics, massage, Chinese medicine, inc acupuncture, fish oil,  glucosamine & chondrotin, magnesium, stem tech, and painkillers.
So it will be interesting what this second specialist says.
Good luck with your journey and let us know how the hyaluronic injections go.
