ACL post op 1 year, scared of re-injury!
« on: August 02, 2014, 12:25:12 AM »
Hello,

I had my ACL reconstructed 1 year ago on august 23rd 2013. I did all the rehab and was feeling great up until last week. I played soccer and lifted weights (squats, leg extension, hamstring curl, calf raises) on Sunday July 27th, I remember limping a little bit after soccer and having some pain in my knee but felt better when I got to the gym. On Wednesday I noticed that my knee was a little bit swollen which has never happened before. I immediately iced and elevated it, and have been taking it easy for 2 days.

Today I'm having little to no pain, any that I have is on the inside of the knee below the kneecap. Most of the noticeable swelling has gone away. The knee doesn't really feel unstable, but it doesn't really feel quite right either. I can walk around, climb stairs etc. just fine. I can't see my orthopedic doctor for 3 weeks, which is why i'm posting here.

I'm guessing that I have some kind of knee sprain? how long do I need to take it easy? Is there anything I can do in the meantime? Any advice is appreciated!

Also i'm 28/male if that matters

Brian

Sounds like it could be any number of things - probably a good idea to take it easy until you get in to see the specialist. How hard have you been pushing it lately? Fatigue may be a factor.

Rest lots, ice lots, stretch, eat well, and try to limit your activities to lower-impact exercise until the doc can rule out something more serious than temporary pain.
