Thoughts on treatment?
« on: July 20, 2014, 09:18:35 PM »
I recently received my MRI with and w/o contrast results from my Primary Care Physician. The MRI showed 4 things wrong with my knee... 1)Non Cancerous Lipoma, 2) Baker's Cyst, 3) Partially torn Tendon or Ligment (can't remember exactly, and finally 4) a grade 4 Fissure in my Patella. I am going to try and make an appt with my Ortho this coming week, but I am afraid with all of those issues that I am looking at knee surgery. Any thoughts/ideas?

Thank you!!

What symptoms do you have?  These should determine a need for surgery not MRI results.  I have lots of things showing on my MRI but as I am able to function pretty well, I am not considering surgery

The fissure on the patella is going to be the toughest thing to fix, depending on what is torn at #3 (baker's cysts often found with meniscus tears, although these are usually just torn not partially torn)
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

Unfortunately, my knee hurts constantly and is swelling quite frequently. My knee also cramps in the middle of the night all on it's own. After a bit of walking, I am usually limping.. the increase in these symptoms is what made me go to the doc in the first place.  :(

Best to see what the surgeon says.  Always worth discussing conservative measures, such as physiotherapy, injections, medication before surgery if you've not already tried that
