I need some advise and reassurance as I am sure other KG members pre op have had a similar experience I am finding myself in right now!

I already sent an email to the hospital that I have copied and pasted and I am slightly annoyed when I made it perfectly clear I am studying and have exams until the 15th July plus volunteering and then book me in earlier during exam week.

I am sorry to trouble you once again I have received a letter saying I will be having my knee surgery done on Monday 7th July under the care of Mr Snow. When I saw Mr Snow on Wednesday 5th March I made it clear to him that I am in the middle of studying and have exams until 15th July and booked me in for surgery on Friday 18th July. I then received a phone call from Mr Snows Secretary to reconfirm the 18th July.

I cannot have surgery until after 15th July and would like Mr Snow to do the surgery and not his Registrar as it my 2nd right knee surgery in 5 years. Ideally I would like surgery on the 18th July. If it is no longer possible I would like surgery done within 2 weeks after the 18th July so I am fit and well to start the new Academic Year in the 1st week of September.

Maybe another patient would be ok to swap over that is having surgery on the 18th July brought forward to July 7th when I should have had my surgery.

I cannot have surgery any earlier and maybe the ROH thought they was doing me a favour to fit me in earlier to achieve the 18 weeks waiting time targets for surgeries.

6 weeks before the official surgery date can I still have my right knee exploratory arthroscopy done on the 18th July or shortly afterwards as I did plan it well in advance on Wednesday 5th March when I saw Mr Snow for my MRI results.

You can certainly try, but if the list is full, as an elective case, you'll need to wait until the next available slot if there's no cancellation at a time that suits. Being holiday time that may work for you or against you if Mr Snow is away

Hope you get it sorted :)
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15

Thanks for the reply, I have arranged in advance up until the 15/07/14 volunteering and is the last day of my exam in Functional Skills Maths. Why is it so difficult to book me in for surgery back in March for after 15th July by booking me in too early when I made it clear I was at college still that week!

I admit more worried and paranoid as I have Asperger syndrome so like to know what is happening in advance. I was really focused to have my right knee exploratory scope done on 18/07/14 and not 11 days earlier.

Be a big set back if I have to wait till September onwards for next available slot in the theatre due to lack of communication that I made very clear, so should do all they can to fit me in the date I originally I was given.

I have been to the ROH today as I had no email response yet, thankfully the receptionist reassured me that Mr Snow Secretary is rearranging the date for surgery on 7th July till back to the original date of July 18th.

All sorted out, I have been re-booked for surgery back to the agreed date of Friday 18th July 3 days after finishing my last exam. Would have to be a glitch as usual that I am getting use to, will be nice to finally have the surgery behind me.

I would have had it done earlier if I was not studying and volunteering, I am not trying to prolong or avoid the exploratory scope, I am busy up to the 15th July.

Hi once again,

I am now getting anxious and paranoid again I am waiting for the post to arrive expecting a standard confirmation letter just to reconfirm  my exploratory arthroscopy is scheduled for Friday 18th July. I hope that the letter will arrive this week, with just over a fortnight till my surgery hopefully!

Reason why I am feeling this way is that the letter specifies that I have to confirm the date and book in for a bed at the day unit 10 days after receiving the hospital letter from the arthroscopy department or will be referred back to my GP.

My last letter was sent a month prior to surgery on the 7th July that has now been put back again to the original agreed date of 18/07/14. Theoretically I should have received a letter by now for the surgery on the 18th, two weeks away Friday and hoping the letter arrives this week.

The worst case scenario would be if the surgery is past the 18th July as I am ready for that day. It would give me 6 weeks of complete rest before going back to college in September. May fall lucky and get a job as a residential care support worker at a specialist school starting in September. I really need to get my right knee sorted as I will then have the school summer break of 6 weeks to get fully fit again.

From past experiences with appointments and communication have to remain cautious!

Hi again,

If I have not had a confirmation letter by Tuesday 8th July 10 days before my surgery I will call Mr Snow's Secretary to make sure I am booked in. It is standard practice to send out a letter with the surgery date and info about the surgery, what you can and cannot do pre op.

Hi All,

Still no letter this morning in the post so rang up the arthroscopy apartment and I am all booked in for the 18th July and have been given a conformation reference number.

I expect they had a cancellation when they wanted me booked in yesterday 7th July so sent out the letter dated 3rd June. I may still receive a standard admission letter in the post the next couple of days.
