Alcohol
« on: April 21, 2014, 01:57:50 AM »
Hello,

Just a little background. I hurt my knee in a fall about 8 days ago. I've yet to get a full diagnosis, because I'm at college, and the health services are very poor here. I had an X-ray, and there are no breaks or fractures. I'm getting an MRI tomorrow, but I think that it's likely that it's a muscle or ligament problem.

I've read that alcohol consumption, especially in excess, isn't good for a healing knee. But I've also read a lot that this is just in the first 48 hours. Since I'm well past that mark, is it okay for me to drink a significant amount of wine? Thank you in advance for your help.

Eve

Personally, with an undiagnosed injury I would avoid getting drunk at all, due to the risk of causing a more serious injury! Regardless of any effect on the healing of an existing injury.
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

When I broke my patella back in December, I avoided alcohol for a while just due to the stability factor. I'm guessing that drinking wouldn't be that bad for the healing process after the first few days, but it definitely can't help!
12/20/13: Slipped on ice, comminuted fracture of left patella
12/22/13: ORIF surgery- 3 pins, wire, leg in immobilizer
12/29/13: No major pain in leg, FWB in immobilizer
01/07/14: Started PT
