pkr now I'm knock kneed
« on: April 07, 2014, 10:33:05 AM »
In had a unicompartmental on January 6 2014  and as soon as the bandages came off I noticed my  was crooked. .Valgus.... knocked kneed.  X rays  have confirmed and now i have pain on my lateral side of the knee deep within.   I have never ever had pain there and it feels like  my foot is rolling in.   My knee is swelled up all the time now too.  Anyone ever have this happen?  I can't stand to look at it in the mirror!   The surgeon said it was like this before surgery!   Well if it was like this BEFORE surgery wouldn't ya fix it?   And trust me a woman knows her legs. .  Was NOT like this before. .. any input would be appreciated

Can you seek a second opinion from a surgeon who specialises in uni compartment replacements. They are more complex than tkr and fewer done, especially lateral. Or was yours medial which is more common. In the uk, for example, these were invented in oxford so if I end up needing one, that's where I'd go, at least for an opinion

Good luck, hope you find some answers and resolution as needed :)
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

I have another opinion on Thursday with a guy that specializes in revisions.  My medial was replaced.  Im in the states and my surgeon is at Brigham and Womens - very very well known  but everyone makes mistakes. . . .

Thought I'd give an update . . . .I have to get a total knee replacement / revision . . .the partial was not put in correctly which is causing the knock kneed.  My leg is misaligned in every way.

That's horrible!  Have you had your 2nd surgery?  Was this just a surgical error and what did the first surgeon say about it?  I'm scheduled to get a PKR on 6/2 and this is one of my fears (among many)!
8/2005-LK subtotal meniscectomy & patellar shaving
10/2005-unable to bear weight on LK, MRI shows OCD
1/26/2006-left knee microfracture for OCD,  biopsy for ACI
7/06&07 Supartz injections, minimal improvement
2014-MRI/films show bone on bone w/cysts,
PKR 6/2/14
