femur lengthening= short quad muscles and tendon
« on: February 22, 2014, 02:23:36 AM »
Hi guys I am new to this forum. So hi I am blackbear. Recently I have had a procedure to lengthen my right femur to match my left femur so my knees are aligned. Now this has been lengthened by 7cm via a Leg reconstruction system (LRS) some people would just call it a monorail fixator.

The problem here is that lengthening the muscles and tendons is harder and requires more time than just lengthening the femur. So I have currently been looking for ways or easier ways to possibly stretch my muscles and tendons once my fixator is off. Just so you know my range of movement currently isn't that good and is at a 10 degree angle with about 4 degrees of flexion either way. I know appalling right?

anyway I have found two devices on the internet which seem they would work a treat, one of which found by a thread on this forum.

the items are as follows

the Mackie knee brace

http://www.orthoinnovations.com/mackieKnee.html

priced 899.99 from here

http://www.healthandcare.co.uk/knee-supports-and-braces/mackie-contracture-knee-brace.html

and the

jas knee

http://www.jointactivesystems.com/JAS-Systems/1/5/JAS-Knee.aspx

Now the reason I am posting all this is as a unemployed disabled 26 year old how am I suppose to get my hands on one of these two items? I am going to be showing these two items to my physiotherapist whom I see every Tuesday to see what he thinks. But would my consultant or someone have to refer me to a Orthotics department? and would they even be able to get there hands on these items in the uk or something similar?

bah I really think these will help me recover faster.

I know this is an old thread but for anyone who does come across the same problem, I did have the exact same procedure to correct the leg, I did 7.5cm and CPM machine was often used with hardcore physio therapy to gain ROM but a knee arthroscopy will probably be needed if the scar tissue heals too much.
