Has anyone had a Trochleoplasty in the UK?
« on: February 06, 2014, 10:57:46 PM »
Hi all,

Following three surgeries that have still left my knee unstable, my OS has suggested the option of having a trochleoplasty to deepen my knee groove. The only problem is that my OS has suggested a surgeon that is quite a substantial way away from where I am located- so I am looking for someone that might be a bit closer. I understand that this is a specialised surgery, so there are only a few surgeons in the UK that actually do it.

So, my question is, if anyone out there has had a trochleoplasty performed, where did you have it and who performed it?

Thank you in advance- any help would be appreciated :)

Hello Summer007,

I have been told recently that I need a trochleoplasty too due a bump instead of a groove... I have been too seen Johnathon Eldridge in Bristol and have been put on his waiting list (6 months).

Looking around it seems that he is the most experienced in the surgery (over 200 ops) and he said he has done the most out of everyone and has the most published research.

Other than him, according to http://www.kneeguru.co.uk/KNEEnotes/courses/realignment-osteotomy-knee-pain-course-adrian-wilson-frcs/osteotomy-patellar-instability-0 there are two other surgeons Pete Thompson in Warwick and Simon Donnell in Norwich. He mentioned the Norfolk one in my appointment.

Hope this helps,  ;D

Hi,

Thank you Vickster and Halfpint for the replies!

Halfpint, I have also been told that Mr Eldridge in Bristol is the most experienced. I actually saw him last February but I didn't have the surgery in the end. Good luck with your surgery when you have it!
