Platelet Rich Plasma
« on: January 07, 2014, 10:28:21 PM »
Lately i've been hearing ads from a local clinic about what they call Prolozone Therapy, or Platelet Rich Plasma. Supposedly this treatment is supposed to help heal damage in a person's joints. I know some pros like Kobe Bryant have used it, but i'm wondering if any Kneegeeks have any experience/knowledge regarding this treatment. Thanks.

My knee specialist does not believe PRP has shown any great success in helping cartilage damage.
It can however help healing of tendinitis. I had it for tendon damage in chronic tennis elbow, it was very painful and unfortunately had no effect and my tendon was repaired surgically a couple of months later.

There is plenty of discussion regarding it on the forum, some may have had some benefit, but unfortunately it appears that the technology is not yet developed to reliably help articular cartilage damage.  I have got relief from hyaluronic acid injections previously.  Waiting for the latest one to kick in, which was given 3 or so weeks ago.

I think prolozone may be a little different to pure prp

These guys are having a conversation about alternate injections available in Europe

I have had both injection and PRP.  Hyaluronic injection made no difference  for me.  The PRP helped tremendously but I also have tendinitis as well as OA.  My knee still grinds but there is no pain.  I would repeat the PRP if needed in the future.
