Sudden Knee pain
« on: November 04, 2013, 11:44:40 AM »
Hello,
Yesterday I experienced a pretty intense pain while playing beach volleyball.  I cannot pinpoint the movement that caused the hurting but it was definitely sudden and limiting.  It is day two now and the pain is still there. It does not hurt while I am just walking or sitting, even with legs crossed. The pain is in front of the knee, a little below and on the inside of my left leg.  The pain happens when I am standing and lift my leg up with my knee bent 90 degrees.  It also happens when I am standing and bending my leg back as if stretching the quad.  Do you think this is serious or just overuse?

I have been playing beach volleyball competitively for the about 15 years now and never had any knee issue. Just wanted to know if this was something serious.
Thank you!!
K.

Unfortunately nobody on the Internet can tell you what is wrong with your knee - you need a hands on examination from a trained medical professional.  The usual initial course of action with any injury is RICE, plus painkillers if required (ice especially if there is swelling which you don't mention).  Try not to do anything that makes the knee hurt, stay off it as best you can and avoid impact.

If it doesn't get any better in time or especially if it gets worse, see a doctor.  A referral to a physiotherapist or orthopaedic specialist may follow :)
