Scar following MPFL surgery
« on: July 08, 2013, 04:28:23 PM »
Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I had MPFL reconstruction surgery in February, so 5 months ago. My knee is fine & I almost have full strength/movement back.

However the scar is bothering me a bit. I have a follow up appointment with the surgeon but due to waiting times etc I'm not sure when this will be.

The scar is quite purple, still very raised and hurts now and again (feels sore and tight, aches). This could be completely normal but I just don't know!
I have attached a picture, it's not great but I think it shows what I'm talking about.

Let me know if it's just me being naive thinking that the scar would have 'settled down' by now.
Any advice/help is appreciated.

I've just counted my knee scars....14! Range across 27 years. The really old ones are so white and flat I hardly notice them. The ones from last year are still purple and raised. S I wouldn't worry. Use almond oil  and lots of sunscreen in the sun!

Hi thanks for your reply. That's what I thought - that it's probably normal but I just have nothing to compare it to.
Hopefully it will fade a bit soon. Thank you.
