rehab compound patella fracture
« on: June 27, 2013, 01:22:31 PM »
I broke my knee cap in a fall 9 days ago. I am in Italy and the Pronto Soccorso (ER) didn't provide much info. They used the word "composta" which I just realized does not mean "composed" but instead "compound." So it is a compound  non-displaced patella fracture, as in it broke through the skin.

I have a back cast for 20 days with no weight-bearing. I have had only slight fleeting discomfort since the cast was applied. I broke the downhill fall with my hands, so my wrists are badly sprained making proper use of crutches impossible.

My question is about the next steps. I am hoping against hope that rehab will begin with the removal of the cast and on July 9th. I'm thinking then maybe a stabilizer, but weight-bearing exercises beginning when the cast comes off. In other words, is it possible down-time will have come to an end by then? I need to get back to work!

Much appreciated.
