Hey there,

I am 33 years old with a 19yr history of knee problems.  I just had a meniscal allograft transplant on April 23rd, 2013.  This is my 9th knee surgery, and previous ones include ACL repair, 2xmeniscus repair, 3x meniscus removal, hardware removal, 2x scopes.

I know that in Canada, especially BC, the allograft transplants are still a fairly new procedure (it was only just approved in BC over the last couple of years and surgeons are still having a hard time getting them done).

I have started a blog about my surgery and recovery...  if anybody is going through the same, has already done it, or is thinking about it I would love to hear from you :)

Cheers,
Katie

Well it's not been an easy one, but I'm almost at 3 months post-op now. Back at work about half-time now, walking on my own, cycling (inside mostly) and swimming.  Still doing lots of rehab!

Things are getting stronger and balance is getting better.  My main problem is with tight tendons over the joint that are making it hard to walk and causing a clicking/popping when they pass over the joint.

Additionally, I'm finding it hard to get rid of all the swelling, which seems to be getting in the way of flexion.

I've got more details on my blog if anybody is interested.  http://cadaverknee4me.wordpress.com/

9.5 Post-Op Month update - Meniscus Transplant Failure After Accident

I was hit by a truck while cycling in September.  At first we thought it was just MCL damage, but I wasn't able to get rid of the swelling in my knee.  Over the last couple of months the swelling has increased, range of motion decreased and the meniscus has started noticeably detaching over the last couple of weeks. Saw my surgeon a few days ago and was told the whole meniscal transplant needs to be pulled out.  I am waiting on a surgery date, but don't have any information yet on the damage to the inside of the joint or whether I will be eligible to have the procedure again.

Before I was in the accident the knee was definitely healing well and I was able to walk farther with less pain than before the surgery.
