Glad you're doing well!  How long are you on crutches?  I hate them!

have been on them 30 days now!!

I am definitely not ready - as much as I'd love to be - for no crutches yet but I'd say I am ready for 1 crutch but my physiotherapist doesn't like people going to 1 crutch she prefers 2 to none so I am kinda stuck for maybe another week or so!

Having a bad night - it's 3 a.m. here and i cannot get comfy. My heart hasn't stopped racing and I haven't stopped sweating with the heart racing and am in pain.  At least I can sleep on my side now but don't know which side to lie on.  I do have an ear infection since yesterday morning (second one since I had the knee surgery) so that could be contributing to my bad night.

Well done!
It's great when you start to make real progress.
I'm at 10 weeks post op and still don't sleep well, every turn in the night seems to wake me. I'm very lucky to be able to nap in the day.
I'm sure it will get better for you soon.
Good luck with your physio.

That's awesome that you are out of your brace already! And that you can get to 120 degrees! I'm a little jealous ;). Take it easy though now that you are out of the brace.

Continuing to do well.

Was very nervous and sore the first couple of days out of the brace but now it is not too bad, just at the end of the day it gets sore,

going on hour walks with the crutches and just trying to build quad muscles back up.  I have my 6 week post op apt tomorrow *cannot believe that!* where I will have my first xray so I am quite excited to see the hardware  ;)

Been a busy week with hospital visits etc but I am getting there! :-)

And thanks itigo - hope you will get out of your brace early :-)

day 39 post op

Not having the best day

Well positive first - had my xray and 6 week post op yesterday and my consultant is delighted with me and the progress that I have made.  He said my osteotomy site has healed too.  He said I can come off the crutches as long as I am comfortable.

So today I went in to town with no crutches - very difficult - I was so stiff and sore and everybody kept getting in my way and looking at me so that was really putting me off - I have Dyspraxia and sometimes cannot be distracted otherwise I can't do the task.  I did about an hour and a half walking with no crutches - quite adventerous for my first day with no crutches haha.  My knee got very wobbly at that point and 'giving out' a bit so I rang my physio so she just told me to rest it and it'll be better tomorrow - very sore now though!

Sorry you have a rough day yesterday :(. It is a hard transition going from that big immobilizer brace to nothing. Can you maybe wrap an ace bandage around your knee or a light adjustable knee brace for when you are walking for extended periods of time? That has helped me a lot, especially in the AM for school drop off and rushing through the parking lot before the bell rings. At home or just quick trips out I don't wear it. Don't want to hurt my mobility anymore.

I hope it gets easier soon. That's what I keep telling myself. Sorry people keep getting in your way too. I've had at least 3 people cut me at the grocery store lately. 1-2 of those times I had my big immobilizer on AND had my 2 kids with me. People can be so rude. Even w/o the knee issue I rarely have anyone offer to hold the door when I have my little one in the stroller. Ok, done venting about rude people on your thread, LOL. I feel your frustrations though! HUGS

Hey kneetrouble,
I was told at 6 weeks to try and lose the crutches, but found that I felt more comfortable with it up until about week 10 - it was security for me (even though not really necessary) with a weak leg, and also warned others to keep out of my way!
Keep your chin up - it will improve from now on and will get steadily easier.
Best wishes,
Debbie

I will be 7 weeks post op tomorrow and doing so much better.

While walking without crutches is still uncomfortable it's not as awful as the first two days - I take one crutch if I know I am going to be out of the house for a long time.

I have hardly any pain at all now apart from the osteotomy site.

A few 'pulling' dislocating feeling moments but I was told that was normal so I am not worried.  Going back to work week after next. Cannot wait  to see my Montessori kids but am going for job interviews this week as I feel I need a fresh start after everything.

Hard to believe that only 3 weeks ago I thought the pain would never end!!

Day 52 post op.

Doing really well,  very minimal pain.

The only thing that is annoying me is the S-L-O-W- walking!!! I am going to have to learn to speed it up but any time I try that I feel this 'crunchh' in my knee and I get nervous, but I guess it will all happen with time!
