What day was your worst post-op day pain wise?
« on: March 30, 2013, 10:38:12 PM »
I'm only 1 day post-op from Fulkerson (TTO), lateral release and medial reefing. Pretty sure nerve block is worn off since it's been over 27 hours. I hope it doesn't get worse than this but I think some say day 3-5 maybe harder? I am able to bear a little weight with my immobilzer on. I am still using crutches but if I need to step down for a second it's not bad.

Hey, I haven't had the fulkerson, but I've had an ACLr + reconstructed ACL debridement, multiple meniscectomies, a screw removal, chondroplasties, scar tissue debridement, a lateral release, capsular releases, plica/Hoffa pad excisions, and synovectomies. For all of the procedures (done in three surgeries), I always found days 2 and 3 to be the worst. However, I've heard days 3-5 are generally the roughest for others. The bruising really comes out on days 4-5!

I think days 1 and 2 are always the worst
1991 - R ACL patellar tendon, med. meniscus removed (50%)
2002 - R ACL revision, cadaver, lat. meniscus removed (50%)
2011 - L ACL patellar tendon, med. and lat. meniscus REPAIR.
3/2012 - L Medial meniscectomy (didn't heal from 2011), microfracture
11/6/12  - L TTT (maquet). Micro fully healed

Thanks!  Today is day 2. Pretty bad pain. Hopefully it's just from laying in bed all night. Feels better once I'm up.

About halfway through the day after my surgery I had myself convinced that I was in for a miraculous pain free recovery...according to the Anesthetist, the femoral nerve block should have worn off 12 hours previously and my leg just didn't hurt at all.  In fact, I hadn't taken any prescribed Percocet because I didn't think I needed any and I don't like the side effects of pain meds.  BIG mistake.  The nerve block literally wore off with a bang, and the pain was so severe it made me physically sick.  It took me another day of absolute misery to get back ahead of the pain.

So in answer to the OP question, I would say that days 2-3 are the worst.  And I agree with rbexc... the colors come on strong about 5 days post-op.
