one leg bigger that other?
« on: March 19, 2013, 08:52:26 PM »
I fractured my knee cap on Nov. 28, 2012. Had surgery on Nov.29, 2012. Walked to early had to have surgery on Jan.16, 2013. And now i feel like one leg is bigger than the other. Is this possible or am I just imagining it. MY patella fracture was a communited displaced fracture first sugery they put 4 pins transfixing the fracture and second surgery they took out the pins and put 3 screws. I am going to be 9 weeks post op on 3/20/13. Getting rom back is a son of a biscuit and does age really matter when something is healing.

Which leg is bigger?  If the one fractured one, then maybe it's swollen (which wouldn't be unusual so soon after surgery) or if the other one, also not unusual, muscle atrophy is common in a leg that's been a) operated on and b) used less?

Have you discussed this with your physio and/or surgeon?

Good luck with your recovery :)

Hi Vickster

When i bend and compare the legs I see that its the fractured one and as for the swelling their is very little of it now. I haven't asked my surgeon because i barely noticed last night and i will when I see him for follow up in a couple of weeks. And thank you for your reply.

Perhaps ask the guys down in patella fracture forum :)

My operated knee is still bigger than the non op'ed and I had no fracture, no metal work etc - it looks a bit puffier but mostly I can tell when wearing fitted trousers or jeans
