Knee never recovered. Doctor's haven't given answers.
« on: March 19, 2013, 06:16:06 AM »
When I was a teenager, I feel from a horse and dislocated my knee the first time. The second time, I slipped in the horse pasture and dislocated it again. I was told I dented the bone behind the patella, and my patellas was so badly chewed up, they would have to basically shave off part of the bone. I had knee surgery, physical therapy and was told I was fixed.

I am now in my late 20's and my knee seems to get worse and worse. I recently lost around 25 pounds to take some strain off my knee, but it only seems worse. Often times, my knee will "give out" and I almost fall. I am in constant pain, and my knee will swell. When I climb stairs my knee will grind and make loud noises. When I go down stairs, my knee makes popping sounds.

I've gone to a couple doctors who both seemed concerned. I was given exercises to do, but that never helps. Anti-inflammatory medication is a good temporary relief however. I feel stuck! Any advise would be great. Thank you.

Where are you based?  It may be that you need to seek a further opinion from an ortho surgeon who has a special interest / specialises in the patella.  There are surgeries that reconstruct the knee ligaments damaged by dislocations.  If you look for MPFL on this forum, you'll find posters with similar experiences (although no two knees are the same of course)

Good luck :)
