There is a whole sub forum with experiences. What country are you in? Have you not been able to discuss this with your surgeon?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09

RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15

I was slated to have a maci in 2010. Never happened due to kissing defects. However I was told by the os to expect to be sore and off work for a week or two. Like any arthroscopy, the knee has undergone a trauma. Been cut, filled with fluid, the bone has been scraped and the joint generally bashed around so it will be sore.

The second op is a much bigger deal. Open incision, long tough rehab. I was told 12 months to be back even to pre op state and another 12 to actually have notable improvement. A long haul! Where in the knee is the defect? Thigh bone, shin bone, kneecap as all this make a difference too. You'll likely be on crutches and brace for 6 weeks and off work maybe for 12. Not driving either .
Are you being treated on nhs or private? Certainly if the latter, the surgeons sec should be able to help with info
Good luck :)

Is this your first ever knee op?  I think it can be surprising how sore and stiff a knee can be after an arthroscopy - the little incisions don't really reflect the trauma to the joint

Left or right knee?  May affect driving.  I should think you could work at a desk job, 3 weeks post op, I certainly did after both of my knee scopes (2nd time was actually less than 3 weeks).  If you have a manual job or one that needs you on your feet all day, you may want to consider part time etc until your second op.  Once you have spoken with the surgeon and have an idea of his protocol for the second stage, you'll want to prime your employer for the fact that you'll be off for quite some time :)

Good luck :)
