Seven weeks after surgery, I am barely bending my knee.  I lost 15% of my lower patella during surgery due to small pieces of fractures being removed.  I have completed 3 weeks of therapy.  I am bending my knee after the last 12 days, but it is very limited.  I am doing what my surgeon calls "peg-leg walking," since the knee is barely bending.  Has anyone been through this surgery who can comment?  Is this to be expected after the knee was immobolized for such a long time...5 solid weeks before any movement was allowed?  Will the patella tendom stretch over time, and 3 weeks is not enough?  The tendon was re-anchored in 4 spots during surgery, after the bone fragments were removed.  I love my therapy place, but the therapists are very silent on these issues, perhaps not wanting to say anything which is a liability or which the surgeon might not approve of.  Please help my lonely soul.  Patella fractures are so uncommon (only 1% of fractures), so I do not find others to chat with in daily life about patella fractures.

I know exactly what you are going through. I had a partial patellectomy but lost 2/3rds of my patella. I am 6mo. Post op and hitting 90degrees of flexion! You will get there just takes time.

Hi guys, just wondering how you all are getting on? My husband had a partial patellectomy last august so 8 months ago and he still isnt 100%. He has bruising still on the back of his knee (brown colour) do/did any of you have this? He's been cycling but has just hit a wall where he isnt sure whether to keep going...whether the pain he's getting is okay as its just learning to do things or whether he should stop ... hard to know. He can only see the specialist in 3 more months time! Good old public health system! Hope you are all recovering 100% as i hope this for my husband too! :-\ It sucks.

@bethc @bdubs @MB7AZ : Following up with all of you here as well.  Had a partial patellectomy almost 2 weeks ago, and while I *think* I'm doing well, I'm noticing more and more stiffness just above my kneecap.  I'm guessing this is the quad tendon and/or a tight quad muscle.  Not sure if it's scar tissue or just general tightness from lack of movement lately.

Just curious how your ROM has changed or increased and any advice to stretch or resolve the stiffness and soreness?

My post op is in 2 days, so I'll learn more there, but ran across this post and wanted to see how your progress has gone.

Thanks!
