Hello Everybody! I'm glad to be here ::) My...there's so much going on here in the big joint. Well, my sad story is: I can straighten, bend my knee, press on it hard, shake it, and sit for long periods without it hurting. It is only when I walk that the whole lower leg hurts, around, and in back of the knee, and I feel something moving and clicking in the cap. It feels better to walk on for about five minutes,  after I wake up from sleep. Then I have to walk with my leg straight. I have had this for about two weeks. I don't want to go under the knife. If anybody here knows what is wrong,  if you please, tell me so I don't get buffaloed paying for any services I don't have to. I have kids to take care of also. Thank You Folks!

Thank You. I sit at my desk most of the day and night working on the computer, plus, I have to walk up and down 12 narrow steps at home alot for the kids, and have been doing it sideways on the bad right knee. So, after so many months of doing this, something was bound to happen. I know I pulled my hamstring also. . When I stopped sitting at the computer for a day, it felt alot better. Sheesh.. ::) all the sports injuries you can get just sitting at a computer working. I guess I'll stop home treatment in a week and go for tests like you. But perhaps if I lay off sitting at the computer desk, and it gets better in time, with just laying down and motrin for pain, maybe I can save my knee without surgery.

Folks; I just  had a nightmare. A large snake was chasing me, trying to bite my leg, and I kept running away from it. I think it meant that the snake was my bad knee trying to get the better of me. :o

If you are having nightmares, I would suggest it is time to see a knee specialist or at the very least a physical therapist if just to put your mind at rest

In the meantime, elevate, ice, take anti-inflammatories if you can tolerate.

You may not want to go under the knife, no-one does, it should be a last resort, most knees can be managed with rest and the right exercises and manipulation.  The cost may be hard to bear (are you in the US?) but presuming you are quite young, you'll need that knee for a long time

Good luck :)

Thank You. I read what you are going through whiskers, and feel sorry for you. I finially received  insurance after waiting for the paperwork,, and then I had to find a GP which I will see this Tuesday. Then I made an appointment with a knee specialist for the 28th. My knee feels like it's breaking when I walk and stand, with things moving around in there, and the pain is bad all the way down the leg. I can fully extend my leg, and it doe'snt hurt when I am sitting or laying down. They will most likely give me xrays and I will keep posting updates. I am thankful to be able to do so here.:(

Hello Everybody! Hi Whiskers, how are you, still a sourpuss? :P I finially saw the knee specialist today. He layed me on the table and moved my knee all around, pushed on it, turned it, and I did'nt feel much pain. He said I still had good movement and thinks it could be arthritis. So he ordered an Arthroscopic X-Ray of my knee. I tried to find out something about this online, but I could'nt. He also ordered physical therapy and an ointment to put on my knee. Right knee is bulging and swollen on the inside part, and I still can't walk without pain in the kneecap. I told him I've been limping around for three months. Well, that's all for now. Over and Out!

Well, The arthroscopic xray was completed and I have somewhere between level 2 and 3 arthritis in the right knee. The knee specialist gave me a brace and I go for physical therapy now for 3 months. It is all over for me now. I will never walk normal again:(

What is an arthroscopic Xray?  Do you mean an arthroscopic surgery or some sort of scan?

Good luck with the next phase of your rehab.  Many people live full and active lives with grade 2-3 changes to their cartilage (and indeed grade 4).  See how you go - you can always try a hyaluronic acid viscosupplementation injection to lubricate the joint - they work for me and others on here.

Positive thinking...

All the best :)

Thank You Whiskers; The arthroscopic xray is just like a regular xray where they place the machine againest the knee, but the pictures are a lot clearer and brighter. The knee specialist was a foreign guy, and I thought I did'nt hear him correctly when he said he wanted to inject Chicken Fat into my knee, but he did'nt know if my insurance would cover it. Seriously, Did I hear that wrong? Chicken Fat? Sooo.. I'll be hangin in the arthritis department here for awhile. Also I do not like this heavy wrap around knee brace with all the straps. It's laying on the back of my chair. I'll be keepin this hairy ol chin up, if you do the same Whiskers:)

Lol whiskers  ;D  Smart phone spell check perchance?

Your doctor may indeed have been talking about Synvisc or similar - some of the hyaluronic acids are derived from poultry, but chicken fat is a funny way to describe   8)  Read up on viscosupplementation - look at the 'injections into the joint' section :)

Indeed, not all insurance companies will cover -  I am in the UK with private health insurance - my company agreed to pay for one round of shots but no more (my surgeon's secretary was mildly surprised at that as they have changed their policy)

Good luck with it all :)
