need help understand results from a mri on my knee
« on: April 13, 2013, 08:49:52 PM »
1. joint effusion
2. prominent chondromalacia patella, to include full thickness loss of articular cartilage on the lateral facet.
3. Internal degeneration versus small peripheral tear of the medial meniscus.
4. Mild chondromalacia in the medial compartment.
5. osteochondromas
I trying to make sence of this but have no idea.

Hi countrykat1,

First, have you seen your dr about this mri?  Obviously he will be better able to answer your questions on results  ;).  But a few things I can give a stab at (keep in mind this is from my experience and may not be accurate to yours).

joint effusion I believe is arthritis, basically.  Although the cause of it may be detrimental in choosing procedures therafter.

you have lost cartilage (alot of it).

your medial meniscus is falling apart (in layman's terms) rather than by an injury

loss of cartilage in medial compartment (not as bad as your lateral facet)

osteochondromas (definition by wikipedia) " a benign tumor that contains both bone & cartilage and usually occurs near the end of a long bone..."

I hope this helps.  But talking to your dr will definitely make your answers much clearer.

Take care!

God Bless,

Misty

Effusion normally refers to swelling or fluid.

Medial is inside edge, lateral is outside

How old are you?
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

Thanks everyone I saw my doctor but I am getting the same answer from him. Just says physical therapy. I have been doing therapy. My knee still is giving out and I can hardly walk. So, I am getting a second opinion. This has been going on since February. My os did not even want me to do a mri. My family doctor ordered it. Because he saw me limping around bad when I would go visit. My age is 46.
