Any Treatment Options Post Medial Meniscectomy???
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:06:16 AM »
Could some please tell me if there is anything I can do to treat/repair/heal/regrow cartilage removed via medial meniscectomies in both knees? The operations took place 5 & 6 years ago and I have no pain and full function/mobility.

Would microfracture, stem-cell injections, platelet injections help?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i don't like the idea of knee replacements in 20-30 years.

Cheers. Pete

I do think there is anyway as yet to regrow removed meniscus tissue.  If you have had almost all of the meniscus removed, there are transplantation options but they are still pretty new and if you are ok, probably not a candidate.  The best really is to build up the muscles in the legs as much as you can to provide support and compensate for the lack of shock absorption  :)
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
LK scope 10.1.19 medial menisectomy, trochlea microfracture, general tidy up

Pete, nothing says that you need replacements in 20/30 years just because you have had meniscectomies. If you are fully functional there's no need to go on with further surgeries unless there is problems.
Surgery 6 times left knee torn meniscus, RSDS,chondromalacia, nervdamage cause constant nervpain, chronic inflamm.
Spinaldamage wheeler 100%.
Right knee damaged aug-06, use brace surgery 4/9-07.LCL tear.
