Is the MpFl the Medial Patella-femoral ligament, if so, is it the ligament that goes down your leg holding your patella in place?

A response greatly appreciated.

Hey there!!!

The MPFL is indeed the Medial Patello-femoral ligament. It is one of the main components of the medial retinaculum. I think however what you are thinking of is the Patellar Tendon which runs down the middle of your leg and is what your patella sits in. The MPFL goes from the medial side of your patella to an area near where the MCL attaches. It serves to provide stability for the patella and prevent lateral movement.

If you need any other info about the MPFL, let me know as I have had a repair and 2 reconstructions to this little ligament.

Hi…

I am now pretty sure that It was my Medial Patello-femoral ligament that I had repaired and ‘sorted out’ as such so that the lateral dislocation of my patella didn’t repeat. I had my surgery 8 weeks ago and went for first physiotherapy today.
I have a large, unattractive scar down the middle of my knee.
Do you have any info about this ligament / procedure in general?
