Strange symptoms - knee not getting better
« on: August 06, 2012, 05:33:41 AM »
About six weeks ago, I somehow hurt my knee playing basketball. I thought it was a simple sprain, but it doesn't seem to be improving.

These are the current symptoms (6 weeks after injury):
1 - slight pain if I completely bend the knee, and general feeling of instability.
2 - crunching noise behind the kneecap that was not there before the injury.
3 - there is a lump above and outside of the kneecap. It is not painful, but was not there before the injury. If I bend the knee, the lump becomes larger.
3 - occasionally something feels out of place on the backside of the knee. If I straighten my leg, I can feel a pop and then the knee feels better.

Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be?

You could have torn something in there and have a "floater" something that's come loose and is moving around and catching in the joint. Suggest following up with a doctor if symptoms have stayed the same or gotten worse.
multiple arthroscopies 2/00,3/01,6/01,1/03, 12/07,10/10. chondromalacia, severe medial joint space narrowing following 3 partial menisectomies, chronic pain problems, kneecap problems, OCD lesion, failed mfx.
