MRI effectiveness / accuracy
« on: May 29, 2012, 06:41:08 PM »
I had a MRI in February 2012 on my left knee 4 months post MFX. The MRI showed thinning cartilage around the MFX area but nothing else. Now in May, I still have more pain than I think is reasonable.  My OS said if things don't get significantly better than he wants to scope my knee.  I see my OS in 3 weeks and expect that this is what he will say.

My question is, how effective are MRI's in detecting a failed or partial failure of a MFX?

Thanks!

I am not sure about MFX failure specifically but I do know MRIs are only about 60% accurate

June '11- PT LK
October '11- Cortisone LK

Does anyone have any links or industry information on the accuracy of MRI"s for knees?  This would be great reading :)

Thanks!

don't have any links but both of my pervious OS have told me in caution that we can't rely on MRI's alone, they are often incorrect either by over-estimating or underestimating the images
