Undiagnosed and receiving prolotherapy
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:12:12 AM »
   ???     Hello ;)
I'm Esther.I am about to have my third set of prolotherapy injections for knee pain in both knees although my right is usually much worse. The pain is worsened with activity, even water jogging.. I am 39 years....I have had an MRI of my right knee and seen an orthopedic and several other people like physio, chiropractor etc.No-one finds anything wrong It started a year and half ago....I am usually fit, active and I am not overweight......all I can do now is a little bit of cycling...but not uphill...Several professionals have said that my joints are stable but then why do I get excruciating pain if i exercise.Even walking after a short while is painful.I have had orthotics made and wear them all the time. The pain is around the knee  and it feels bad in the joint like there must be some ligaments not doing their job and the pain affects my lower leg or sides of the knee.If I don't do much there is no pain. I have been having prolotherapy for  nearly a month now......and am going to continue for a bit to see if it helps any......feels strange to not be able to diagnose it...........Anybody had similar experience............Esther

Sounds to me like you need a better doctor. It could be arthritis, or anything. X-rays would be useful too besides just an MRI.

Invest in a good brace in the mean time until you find a better specialist who can correctly diagnose your condition.
Have had tilted kneecaps for many years, and occasional patellar tendinitis.

I have had a range of tests and do not have arthritis.I have had xray also. The ortho originally put the pain down to a tight it band and prescribed anti-inflams but this didn't work.....however I had regular massage till the IT band till eventually it stopped being so tight but then the pain didn't go from  the knee and the surrounding ligaments....Is it possible to have that I have scar tissue from overuse.....does that happen?

I have the tight fabric type knee brace, and it dosen't help much......Thanks all, have a great day...Esther

I don't think overuse can produce scar tissue, but I'm not a doctor.

If you have a tight IT band, the pain will be pretty localized, and not like what you are describing. Again, you should really get another opinion. There are some lists of knee doctors on this board that might be helpful, though it's only a partial list.

There are different types of braces besides the simple elastic ones. It would be worthwhile to try out a good one.
