MPFL reduced ROM
« on: June 09, 2012, 12:39:14 AM »

I had a MPFL on my left knee in June 2011 after multiple dislocations.  The surgery went well and I had the usual pain afterwards.  I followed all of the dr's rehab advice.  I religiously followed my PT's instructions and did the rehab.  It took me 8 months to reach 90 degrees of flexion and still getting pain.  I then swapped PT to a sports specialist.  I am in law enforcement so need to be 100% to go back to work.  I am now at 12 months and stuck at 110 degrees and it won't move any further.  I also have extreme pain behind the kneecap and a bad creaking when I bend it.  I cannot walk up or down stairs without the pain.

In 3 weeks I am going back in to have a scope to clean up the back of the kneecap.  My OS has told me that he thinks I may have reached my limit with flexion and doesn't think I will get any further.  He also said the scope may take some of the pain away but might not.  I thought it is worth the chance to try and get rid of some of it.

Has anyone else ended up with reduced ROM?  I can't run around with my kids and it sucks.  I can't squat, sit for long periods with bent knee or stand for to long as it gets extremely sore.  If I am on my feet for too long by the time I get home from work I am in agony.

Any ideas??

I think you might want to take a hop on over to the arthrofibrosis section of this forum. If you have AF, a "simple" clean up surgery might not be as harmless as you think.
