TTT - 1 1/2 years ago and having symptoms again
« on: June 24, 2012, 02:51:07 AM »

I had a Fulkerson Osteotomy TTT (Patella Realignment), December 30th 2010, 1 1/2 years ago. I had to have the screws removed as they became very painful to the point it felt like my bone was fractured at time. Following the screws removal, my knee felt better than ever. I am also an elite level athlete- diver (springboard and platform) and up until this past April my knee was doing great. I was able to practice and train more than I have in years and I could not have been happier. However, after season in April my knee started to act up again so we decided to back off my knee. I didn't do anything other than daily activities and PT for almost 2 month and when I started diving again, the break was worth it. However, we have been easing me back in, but my knee is again feeling like it did prior to having surgery. When my knee starts to swell and gets sore I am getting numbness below my knee and into my calf and foot. It feels like it is coming from around where the Ortho did the fasciotomy (to prevent compartment syndrome). Anyway, until recently and since surgery I had not had swelling in my knee, no popping, clicking and catching under my knee cap and I could do stair and almost anything with out pain. I say until recently as now the swelling has started to come back, and the popping, clicking and catching is worse than it probably ever has been. And now, the pain is back with vengeance. I am getting pain around the Osteotomy site and where the screws were, but my Ortho told me that it prob is not related to the screw site. Has anyone experienced a return of symptoms following this surgery or possibly know what is going on? I spoke with my Ortho and she is sending me for a new MRI and will see me, as she is unsure of what is going on as this was supposed to be fixed. I am really concerned as to why the symptoms are back, and I am also trying to get ready for diving nationals.

Please help.
