BUPA not authorizing ACI procedure
« on: May 28, 2012, 03:52:49 PM »
Has anyone had a ACI procedure authorize by BUPA or any other UK private medical company within the last 2 months, i am trying to get this procedure authroized but BUPA are saying the trail has ended so they won't fund this operation, even though i can have the same procedure on the NHS.  I am tying to gather information to go back to BUPA to revoke their decision.

There are many posters from the UK here. Hopefully one of them can answer your question.
Have had tilted kneecaps for many years, and occasional patellar tendinitis.

I answered on previous thread

Luckily BUPA did agree to pay for one course of 3 (Ostenil) jabs

My surgeon says that if these don't work, he would recommend AMIC - previous insurers refused to pay for this in 2010, at the time, the OS's sec said that BUPA would pay - here's hoping they haven't changed their mind if I do need it

Why are BUPA refusing if it is available on the NHS - normally insurers take the "NICE won't fund due to lack of data so nor will we" stance  ::)

Maybe you'll need to go the NHS route?

Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15

BUPA are saying that the trial has ended and that is why they are not funding it.  Professor Briggs has said he would do this procedure under the NHS and to get my doctor or refer onto him.  So i am going down this route but in the mentime still trying to get BUPA to agree.
