Need Advice. Anyone had this problem?
« on: April 02, 2012, 04:51:41 PM »
I have battled knee pain for the past 3 to 4 years and it is now getting worse much faster. I started out by going to a general family doctor and he referred me to specialist who ran a MRI. The MRI came back and the only two problems that were found was a small cyst in the back of the knee and he felt the problem was being caused by the padding under my knee cap being wore down allowing cartlidge to rub against the knee cap or bone. He said that sugery could be performed but it only helped 50% of the people who have it done.
He gave me an injection into my knee and I was good for about 18 months. For the last 12 - 18 months I have had pain and swelling and have had 3 injections. The last injection was only a month ago and the pain and swelling is worse than ever.

My knee has started waking me up with a bad throbbing pain and at times its tough to walk around without a bad limp. Going down stairs is the worst pain. Should I get another opinion of just keep going until I can't? I'm at a loss and in a lot of pain.

Thanks in advance

All problems do not always show up on MRIs. A good doctor won't trust to it entirely, I feel. Definitely get another opinion and also some X-rays to check joint spacing, etc. MRIs are not always necessary.
Have had tilted kneecaps for many years, and occasional patellar tendinitis.
