new and in need of help surgery in 1 week

Hi,
Im due MPFL surgery in jsut 1 week but i cannot seem to find much info on what to expect afterwards, i've found gory videos on you tube but I couldnt watch them. Ive already had 2 surgeries  in the last year I have had a ostrum repair and OCD drilling of the left ankle following an accident where i displace by ankle.
Ive suffered 3 dislocations in the last 10 years of my right knee the last being the worse and occured from merely walking across the bedroom. Scans showed ruptured ligamnets and I am having Surgery using a graft from my hamstring.

The problem is, thats all the info I have???? I dont know anything about recovery, wether I will be in a brace, how long the hospital stay will be or anything. Can I use stairs, weight bear etc???? Ive only seen my consultant twice and was booked in for surgery. The pre op team are just standard nurses and not specialist.

Has anyone else been through this and have any advice please? Im a 33 year old mum of 4 who runs her own business :)

Thanks

hello, I'm having the same kind of info issues as you are. It's either gory vids re: the surgery or outdated OS conference papers. My surgery is in 2 days I know my OS will have me in a brace and crutches  and I will be staying overnight as an outpatient. I also was told rehab was similar to ACL repair. I don't suggest watching the videos. I did and being a nurse I don't gross out easily but it really freaked me out and made me nauseaus (maybe because that's what's gonna happen to me not just someone I'll be caring for  :o).  Good luck in in ur search AND surgery!

so I recieved some anwsers from my OS today (I had dropped off a list of a few questions at his office once my mind got out of shock mode) re: my MPFLr Wednesday. His protocol has me in a brace for 4wks and crutches "probably the same amount of time". Also I can't return to work for 3months (I have a physically demanding job otherwise I'm sure it would be A  LOT sooner) AND can return to snowboarding (though "potentially not at (my) current level").  Also was told the type of anesthesia is up to me (spinal or general) which was a relief! Every surgeon's protocol is different but this is at least what I'm lookin at. Also my PT told me I should try and stay away from stairs for awhile. Hope it helps some.
