I had my knee re-mri'd 7 months post procedure and that's when they determined mine failed, as I continued to have pain where mine was done. If your pain persists, decide how much longer you want to wait before asking them to re-image your knee, with a focus on the articular cartilage.
multiple arthroscopies 2/00,3/01,6/01,1/03, 12/07,10/10. chondromalacia, severe medial joint space narrowing following 3 partial menisectomies, chronic pain problems, kneecap problems, OCD lesion, failed mfx.

what did they do once they decided it had failed?
some things are better than it was before the op
i.e i can left the weights now which i couldnt do before had due to pain
but i never had locking or clicking before the op
going up stairs are ok now but coming dwn my leg drops a bit and cant hold the weight, dont know if thats muscle weakness or not?
can bend down on the bad leg as it hurts in the fracture area and the thigh muscles shakes out of control
i am wondering ifall this is due to muscle weakness that i,m still in pain? or is it the pain causing the muscle weakness?

Lots of this does sound like muscle weakness, frequent targeted PT should help

Although I didn't have MFX, I do have a defect filled with fibrocartilage following trauma to the condyle (~1.5cm2) (essentially the aim of a MFX) - 2.5 years on this area is still tender when prodded but I wouldn't say painful per se with normal use  I am assuming that the fibro is in tact).  I know from the MRI that the subchondral bone is damaged, given cartilage has no nerves, I assume this is the cause of the pain

Locking and clicking can also be a sign of a meniscus tear...

Given your level of concern, it would be wise to make an appointment to see the OS (if discharged, you may need the GP to re-refer you)

Good luck :)

no ive not been discharged my follow up appointment is in april
the area doesnt hurt to touch at all, bending down does worry me because i would of thought after 5months i should be able to do this by now!
the clicking and locking only happens straight after i do the leg extension,so could this be a factor ?

I wouldn't be doing leg extensions - 2 physios have told me that these are not advised with any patella involvement (I had grade 3 tidied during my 1st scope).  I stick to leg press only (then I am not much of a weights person at the gym, my leg strength comes from cycling mainly)

I can now squat if necessary, but still not entirely comfortable - not something I need to do much, I just kneel on the good knee if need to get down low.  I cannot kneel with any weight on the knee due to the femur damage

If concerned, call the OS sec and see if you can get in earlier than April :)

i am a sportman and teach football/soccer
so i need to be able to run jump twist turn etc
it doesnt hurt doing the leg extension just my leg shakes and locks after i was putting this down to weak muscle
and maybe the lateral release i had done at the same time as the m-fracture

Indeed.  I can't comment on lateral release.  Why was the procedure done - seems a bit of a risky one?  Do you have wonky patellas?

Unfortunately post injury and especially post surgery, knees are never really the same again for most of us, so perhaps you will need to modify your activities/level thereof

i was told the knee was tracking lateral right where the cartialge damage was so they did them both together

Interesting.  I thought LR was not a good idea if there was damage to the cartilage?  I am valgus wonky, so all my 3 bones are tatty on the lateral side

i had a lateral release done 7yrs ago on my right knee never had a problem with it since!!
so i guess they thought it would benefit me doing it on the left one now!
muscle weakness is this coming with cartilage problems?

I would have thought due to surgery and lack of use - you were NWB for ages IIRC?

It can take many months of hard and focussed PT. It took my knee at least 3 months to feel halfway stonger and wasn't until about 9 months and hundreds of miles of cycling to feel good. I was wb straight away and in reality had little done. Persevere and good luck  :)
